Serra High’s girls’ track and field team enjoyed a good showing in last Friday and Saturday’s California State Championships at Buchanan High’s Memorial Stadium in Clovis.

Keying the Lady Cavaliers was their 4x100-meter relay team who finished second with a season best time of 45.82 seconds. Runners on the squad included Jaela Williams, Madison Golden, Morgan Decantle and Jasmin Reed.

Serra High’s girls’ track and field team had a relay, a sprinter and a hurdler advance to Friday and Saturday’s California State Championships after strong showings in last Saturday’s CIF-Southern Section Masters Championships at Cerritos College.

This season’s version of the Serra High track and field program is mostly young with little experience but it has progressed as the season went on.

For the first time in six years, Serra High’s baseball team is not going to the CIF-Southern Section Division III playoffs, but the Cavaliers’ young squad gave Del Rey League co-champion Los Angeles Cathedral a glimpse of what they will be looking to do next year with a 10-1 rout in their season in a five-inning rain shortened game last Friday at Serra.

Serra High Zinovian Cannady advanced to the CIF-Southern Section Division IV Track and Field Championships in the the 110-meter high and 300-meter intermediate hurdles, as well with the 4x100 and 4x400 relays. The Cavaliers will be in the finals at Cerritos College beginning at 11 a.m. on Saturday.

During the recent past, Serra High’s track and field program has been dominating the Del Rey League and most of the rest of California.

This year, the Cavaliers appear to be rebuilding but they qualified enough athletes for Saturday’s CIF-Southern Section Division IV Prelims after top showings in the Del Rey League Championships on May 6 at St. Paul High in Santa Fe Springs.
