The Gardena Valley Japanese Cultural Institute will cap off the end of August with a bang this year. In partnership with Japan Alliance, the JCI will host it first Yatai Food Festival, to take place Saturday, Aug. 27, and will feature a many mouthwatering street foods from a variety of vendors:

Have you ever been interested in the art of Taiko?

Whether you want to learn about the history of taiko or actually practice yourself, the Gardena Valley Japanese Cultural Institute (GVJCI) is happy to help.

No prior experience is necessary to attend these classes that will be taught by Yuujou Taiko, a group of friends from all over Southern California passionate about the art of taiko. 

The Gardena Velley Japanese Cultural Institute will host its annual Day of Remembrance (DOR) event Saturday, Feb. 27 from 2 to 4 p.m. at the JCI. DOR commemorates the signing of Executive Order 9066, which caused the mass removal and imprisonment of Japanese Americans during World War II.

The Gardena Valley Japanese Cultural Institute invites the public to its first Kodomo no Hi (Children’s Day) celebration from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, May 8 in the GVJCI breezeway (outdoors).

“We will be making kites, koinobori art (carp-shaped art), origami samurai hats, and learning more about this amazing day, and how to celebrate the health and happiness of children,” celebration officials said.
